“Keep it together” “Know who you are” “Don’t let us down”

Haunting words to someone spiralling into uncertainty of self in a society that expects you to STAY THE SAME.

We are actively discouraged from questioning from young age. Ask questions only so you understand what i am saying an can repeat, not so you can understand why I am saying it or question if I am right. We are taught to follow blindly the societal norms.

Get a job, buy a house, pay your taxes, have babies, “one for mum, one for dad and one for your country” and then get sick from eating all the shit food that was quick and easy because you had to go, go go to keep up with the Jones’s.

When living in this existence there comes a point where we question who we are and why we are doing what we are doing. We get labelling in this time. “midlife crisis” “depressed” “lost”

God forbid we question.

The truth is, it is in these moments we have the opportunity to take hold of our lives and realise  what or who we truly are as apposed to the layers of projected self we have been told we are or should be. AND what makes us happy.

There is a culture of fear around this experience. That we should not “let ourselves go” I disagree. Let yourself go. Let go of the layers of should’s and discover the light underneath it all and then follow that. There is nothing to fear, only to surrender.

Because at the end of the day, your experience is all you have and your light is all you have to give.
